WHAT ARE THE "8 DAYS OF ACTION FOR VACCINATION"?

From October 24 to 31

It is a campaign with which we seek to revitalize the importance of immunization as a public good for universal health in the countries and territories of the Americas, so they achieve the objectives established for vaccine-preventable diseases and access to vaccination for all people, to preserve the health of children, adolescents, adults and societies everywhere.

WORLD POLIO DAY

Polio is a highly contagious disease caused by the poliovirus. In rare cases, the virus can attack the parts of the brain that help breathing, which can lead to death. There is no cure for polio, but it can be prevented by vaccination. World Polio Day offers an opportunity to renew the commitment to global eradication and ensure that this virus does not return to the Americas. In 1 in 200 people infected with poliovirus, the virus destroys parts of the nervous system and causes permanent paralysis of the legs or arms.

The 8 Days of Action for Vaccination campaign was created to raise awareness and support efforts to eradicate polio worldwide, including continuing vaccination against this disease and maintaining epidemiological surveillance actions. This year, 2022, marks 31 years since the last case of wild poliovirus in the Americas region.
