An opportunity exists for an International Consultant to Support Surveillance on Covid-19, Influenza, Respiratory, and Other Diseases at Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Guyana Country Office. The successful candidate will support the Ministry of Health in the development and implementation of a comprehensive National Strategic Plan for Health Surveillance, including training of surveillance focal persons at national and regional level.
Technical expertise
Knowledge about health surveillance and informatics;
Experience in data management and use for action (including data analysis and databases,
data sharing and digital capacity, reporting and use of data);
Experience in strategic planning and capacity building;
Strong professional and academic writing skills;
Strong research, problem-solving and organizational skills;
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office applications (MS-Office Word, Excel, and Power Point) and statistical software, data collection, and data visualization tools
Excellent knowledge of health information management systems such as DHIS 2
Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is desirable
Experience working with PAHO/WHO, other United Nations Agencies and multiple stakeholders would be an asset
Education/Experience
A Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field with a minimum of five years relevant working experience in disease surveillance, including at least one year in an international setting. Experience working as a field epidemiologist will be an asset
The incumbent should be based in Guyana under the direct supervision of the PAHO/WHO Guyana country office Advisor for Health Surveillance, Disease Prevention and Control. The total duration of the assignment is eleven (11) months.
