Hurricane Ida

On 30 August, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported that Hurricane Ida made landfall in southern Louisiana on 29 August as a Category 4 hurricane. Once making landfall, the storm quickly weakened to a tropical storm. In Louisiana, one million people are without power, and in Mississippi, 113,000 people are without power. In Louisiana, 4 hospitals were damaged, and 39 facilities are currently running on generated power. According to media reports, there has been one fatality, and 4-8 inches of rainfall are expected in Louisiana and Mississippi, and between 3-6 inches are expected in the Tennessee Valley, Ohio Valley, and the central and southern Appalachians later this week. Severe Weather  

Guatemala (Update) 

On 27 August, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED, per its acronym in Spanish) reported 8 severe weather incidents in the departments of Quiché, Baha Verapaz, Guatemala, and Alta Verapaz that affected 4,631 people. Landslides were reported in Quiché and Baja Verapaz departments, flooding was reported in Alta Verapaz Department, and there was one report of subsidence in Guatemala Department. Among the affected people, 11 were evacuated and one fatality was reported. In terms of damages, 23 homes sustained mild, moderate, or severe damage. According to a media report, 13 injuries and 16 deaths have been attributed to the 2021 rainy season and in total, 1,010,407 people have been affected, of which 7,730 required evacuation and 546 were placed in shelters.
