Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health

The Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health Department (EIH) works to harness the power of science, evidence and digital transformation to improve health for all. Its main objectives are: a) Support information systems and digital transformation for health; b) Engage in building health intelligence; c) Strengthen the ethics, evidence support and research systems; d) Knowledge management, translation and dissemination.

EIH is comprised of three units and a specialized regional center:

Core Indicators

The Core Indicators database contains a series of data comparable to allow for trend analysis over time, by indicators, subregion, or country, grouped in demographic-socioeconomic, health status, risk factors, service coverage, and health systems categories.

Health in the Americas

The Health in the Americas publication continues PAHO’s tradition as a leader in public health and provides unique information from the country level for all those interested in the present and future of health in the Region.

Information Systems for Health (IS4H)

The Information Systems for Health Maturity Assessment Tool (IS4H-MM) describes the method, tool and questions for assessing organizational capacity related to digital transformation: data management, governance, innovation and knowledge management. Is also a reference framework guiding Information Systems for Health to keep walking through the changing path of information and knowledge revolution, and how countries and organizations might grow in capabilities to operate, interact and benefit from them.

Monitoring health inequalities

The Handbook for Monitoring Health Inequalities, with Special Emphasis on Low and Middle Income Countries is a resource that enables countries to do just this.

PLISA

This project is is a Health Information Platform for the Americas, which offers core indicators, health analysis information including health profiles, reports and scientific publications, mortality data and other health topics.

Methodologies

This series describes diverse methods, tools, and questions for improving organizational capacity related to communities of practice, lessons learned, virtual meetings, scientific articles, virtual discussion forums, scientific writing, institutional memory, and information society.

PAHO Digital Library

This document has the purpose of establishing the guidelines to follow for the management, selection, description, publication and preservation of the scientific-technical memory of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) through its Repository Institutional for Information Sharing (IRIS-for its acronym in English: Institutional Repository for Information Sharing).

Collaborating Centers

WHO Collaborating Centres comprise over 800 institutions such as universities, hospitals, research institutes, academies or ministries which have been designated to carry out activities in support of the Organization’s programs. All WHO Collaborating Centres located in the Region of the Americas are known as Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Centres (PAHO/WHO CCs) since PAHO serves as a WHO Regional Office.
